Henna has been used for centuries for beauty, hair and skin care. Want to know more about this wonderful ingredient and how to use it for hair care?

Tanin & Henna

Henna is rich in Tannin – a reason we also use it for coloring hair. Tannin binds to the hair and makes it stronger without damaging the hair. So you get lustrous and thick hair, without any damage that comes with using chemicals for boosting volume. The reason is that henna doesn’t penetrate beyond the hair cortex.

Sebum & pH Regulates

Did you know Henna can soothe hyperactive sebaceous glands, which regulates scalp’s oil production? Not only that it also regulates the scalp’s pH levels bringing it to the right acid-alkaline ratio.

Nourishing & Strengthening

Henna strengthens hair follicles and nourishes both hair and scalp. Rich in nourishing ingredients, Henna is a good hair and scalp food. As a result both hair and scalp are healthier, happy and problem-free.

Healing

Henna can soothe damaged, dry and unruly hair and make it manageable, healthy, shiny and soft once more. It also prevents hair damage and can soothe hair that is damaged due to excessive heat or chemical treatments.

Natural

We all know it is a natural ingredient considering it is a herb, but it is important to stress that Henna doesn’t need excessive care and is often found along the roads in Asian countries. As a result, there’s no need for genetic modifications or chemical treatments to promote growth or for other reasons. However, this doesn’t mean all Henna are organic.

Downside & Solution

The only downside for Henna that I have personally experienced is that it is a little drying. You might need to add a moisturzing ingredient in your Henna pack to counter this. It could be coconut milk, oil, milk, yogurt, rose water, honey, rice water, etc. based on the recipe and its requirements or suitability.

How to Use Henna in Your Hair Care Routine?

You can use Henna in your hair pack, hair mask, hair oil, hair wash powder, etc. You can choose what works for you best and go accordingly. For light colored locks it is best to use Henna in oil, as it can stain hair when used as a pack. We have a few recipes on our site already and will be adding more in the days to come, so stay tuned!

Henna as a Hair Color

Henna is widely used to color hair. Increasingly more men and women are resorting to natural means to care or style hair these days. As a result, Henna is a very common choice as a coloring ingredient. As mentioned earlier, Henna is used for coloring and due to the presence of Tannin renders rich color to hair. The color can vary from orange – copper – brownish orange. While the natural shade is often not the expected result, we add other natural color to get the shade of our choice – black, dark brown, copper brown, brown, reddish brown, etc. Again, the recipes for using Henna to color hair is shared in our site already with more than one combination options or choices.
