Hot oil treatment is like the holy grail for hair and scalp care. It is a nourishing and rejuvenating treatment that’s also a pampering of sorts for your hair.

This treatment uses very few ingredients but don’t let the simplicity fool you. It packs a punch and just what your hair and scalp need, especially if they’ve been neglected for long.

Ingredients

Dark Molasses – 2 Tbsp.

Argan Oil – 1 Tsp.

Olive Oil – 2 Tbsp.

Sweet Almond Oil – 2 Tbsp.

Lavender Essential Oil – few Drops (Optional)

Instructions

In your double boiler, heat together Olive Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and Dark Molasses.

When the mixture is warm remove from heat and add in the Argan Oil and Lavender Essential Oil if using.

Done!

How to Use the Hot Oil?

Comb or brush your hair to make sure your strands aren’t tangled.

No, massage the warm oil mixture to your scalp and apply the rest on your hair making sure to cover the tips.

Massage for a few seconds and wrap your head with a warm towel, or use a shower cap to cover your head.

Wait for at least 25 minutes before washing off.

Don’t forget to use a mild shampoo and let your hair air dry.

You can follow-up with a conditioning rinse or your usual conditioner.

Don’t use hot water for washing your hair – lukewarm water is good if you can’t use cold water.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

If you have light hair that might get stained due to Molasses swap it for Honey. Remember Honey has a bleaching property though it is reduced or nullified when heated. That is another reason why Molasses is used though Honey is comparable in terms of nutritional value and properties.

You can use any carrier oil according to your hair or scalp type and your requirements.

Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Infused Oils, Avocado Oil, etc. are good choices and can be chosen based on their availability and your preference.

You can use any essential oil of your choice.

You can use infused oils for better results or infuse the oils with ingredients of your choice.

Why These Ingredients?

This combination though looks simple it’s really the ultimate when it comes to treating damaged or dry hair. It adds the lost moisture and nourishes your hair. It restores hair’s lost luster and shine.

If you hair is especially dry or has gone through harsh treatments then this is your best bet to restore your hair back to life. While some damage can’t be reversed you can still nurture your hair to it’s lost glory, at least partially.
