So, want a way to make your hair soft, manageable and healthy? Here’s an amazing DIY Hair Butter that will do wonders for your natural hair.

My niece has really curly hair that’s often difficult to manage. It was also brittle and frizzy, so I wanted to nourish, moisturize, strengthen and most importantly, improve the hair’s elasticity.

So, I came up with this recipe after playing around with different ingredients and it really worked.

Shea Butter

Ingredients

Shea Butter – 10 Gms.
Kokum Butter – 10 Gms.
Cupuacu Butter – 50 Gms.
Jojoba Oil – 10Gms.
Castor Oil – 20 Gms.
Vitamin E Oil – 1 Capsule.
Avocado Oil – 20 Gms.
Argan Oil – 2 Tbsp.
Coconut Oil – 30Gms.
Rosehip Seed Oil – ½ Tsp.
Aloe Vera Gel – 30 Gms.
Myrrh Essential Oil – 10 Drops

Instructions

Melt the Shea Butter, Kokum Butter and Cupuacu Butter in your double boiler.

Once melted, remove from heat and add the oils.

Let it cool down. You can refrigerate the mixture for a while to fasten the cooling down process.

Now, add the mixture to your blender or whipping bowl.

Add Aloe Vera Gel and Myrrh Essential Oil, and start whipping till the mixture is fluffy.

Store in a sterilized jar and use as needed.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You could swap the ingredients given in the list for ingredients that you like better, or suit you better.

If you are allergic or don’t prefer Shea Butter, use Cocoa Butter instead.

If you don’t prefer Coconut Oil, or allergic it, swap it for Olive Oil.

Also, I have used Myrrh Essential Oil for its rejuvenating and healing properties, though you can use any essential oil or fragrance you love. Myrrh also adds a mystic fragrance to the recipe and makes this hair butter alluring.

Why These Ingredients?

Shea Butter

A soft butter that’s nourishing, rejuvenating and does wonders for natural hair, this is also light and doesn’t weigh down hair.

Kokum Butter

This is a hard butter and known for its ability to strengthen hair and improve hair elasticity. It makes hair stronger and healthier.

Cupuacu Butter

This is a soft butter and is extremely nourishing, moisturizing and makes your hair strands soft and manageable. I love how this improves hair elasticity.

Jojoba Oil

It is a moisturizer but more importantly, regenerates hair and improves hair elasticity. It also gets absorbed readily, as it mimics our skin sebum.

Castor Oil

This is one of the best oils for strengthening hair and improving hair growth. It is rich in Omega Fatty Acids and improves blood circulation to the scalp.

Vitamin E Oil

It is a natural preservative and one of the best oils for your hair and scalp. It strengthens hair and promotes hair growth.

Avocado

This is one of the closest replacements to silicone, so if you are looking for sheen and shine, Avocado is your best bet. However, I love that it is light and yet, moisturizing and penetrates hair shafts strengthening it from within.

Argan Oil

We’ve spoken a lot about Argan Oil benefits for hair already, though I love the way it improves hair elasticity, softens hair and makes detangling easier. It also reduces frizz and offers loads of other benefits.

Rosehip Seed Oil

This improves hair elasticity and softens hair. It is rejuvenating and makes your hair healthier and stronger.

Aloe Vera Gel

A humectant and hydrating agent, Aloe Vera also seals in the moisture and keeps your hair moisturized and shiny longer.

How to Use the Hair Butter?

Take a small dollop and apply on your hair and style as usual. Less is more with this butter, so apply lightly – it doesn’t weigh down your hair this way.
