Dried Herbs

Instructions

In a heavy bottomed pan or vessel, add all the dried herbs / herb powders.

Boil 5 Tbsp. of water and add it to the dried herbs and let it sit for 2 hours.

Now, add the oils to the vessel where you have left the herbs to hydrate and stir well.

Switch on the stove and let the oil heat and make sure temperature is low.

Simmer for 2 – 3 hours and don’t cover during this time.

Switch off and let it cool down.

Use a cheesecloth or fine mesh to filter the oil.

Pour the filtered oil in a hard-bottom vessel and heat for another 30 minutes, to remove any moisture.

Let it cool down.

Once it cooled down, transfer to a sterilized bottle – preferably glass.

Remember: If you use powdered herbs, you can add a Tsp. or two of boiling water for hydration and let it sit for 2 hours. Now, add 4 Tsps. Of oil and mix to form a paste – for one spoon of herb powder, you need 1 Tsp. of water and 4 Tsps. of oil. Follow the same process as given above after this step.

You can change the oil if you have a preference, though this is the traditional recipe, excluding Argan Oil. I love how Argan Oil helps with frizz and swapped it for a Tbsp. of Argan Oil instead. However, you can use 2 Tbsps. of Sweet Almond Oil instead.

Why Follow This Recipe?

  • It curbs frizz and tames dry hair.
  • It cleanses your scalp, thanks to antifungal and antibacterial ingredients.
  • Promotes hair growth.
  • Curbs hair loss and premature graying.
  • Nourishes and strengthens hair strands and roots.
  • It is more suitable for dark hair, so those with blonde hair should check if it causes discoloration, before applying it for your entire hair.

How to Apply it?

This hair oil is best applied before hitting the bed. It will nourish your hair and scalp while you sleep, by morning you can wash it off. Ideal application is once a week for most, though you can apply twice if you have dry hair or once in two weeks if you have oily hair.

The oil should be room temperature or warm while applying for best results – you can either heat it mildly, or use the friction from your fingers to bring it to room temperature. Gently massage your scalp with this oil using your fingers.

You might feel sleepy after the massage, though the effort you put in for preparing this oil or for massaging your scalp isn’t wasted. Don’t have time for DIY Recipes?
