DIY Hair Pomade for Men

Hair Pomade is one of those styling products that many need to keep their hair intact. Do you know it is very easy and simple to prepare it?

Hair styling products cost a ton. But the good news is that, you can prepare them in your kitchen for a fraction of the cost with similar if not better results. And the best part – it doesn’t damage your hair or scalp like chemicals do. Win – Win right?

I have always wanted to prepare my own skin and hair care products and now I almost have a complete set of items that I prepare at home. Let’s take a look at this recipe. Shall we?

Ingredients

Beeswax – 1 Tbsp.
Cocoa Butter – 2/3 Tbsp.
Argan Oil – 1 Tsp.
Jojoba Oil – 2 Tbsp.
Rosemary Essential Oil – 5 Drops
Cinnamon Essential Oil – 2 Drops

Instructions

In your double boiler melt together Beeswax and Cocoa Butter.

When fully melted remove from heat.

Add the Jojoba Oil and Argan Oil after it cools don a tad.

When almost cooled down add in the Essential Oils.

Stir to combine.

Transfer to a sterilized jar and let it set.

Done!

Yes, that’s all there is to get a hair pomade made. I used this as a DIY Gift during season times and my friends used to love it. This is a variation I used for their better halves as a gift for valentines, so they can surprise their husbands.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use any essential oil of your choice – Lavender, Myrrh, Peppermint, Lemon, etc. You can choose what works for you best and your requirements.

You can use Shea Butter instead of Cocoa Butter or any other Body Butters depending on your budget, availability and preference.

For lighter Pomade, increase the oil to butter & wax ratio.

Some prefer adding clay to the pomade, but this recipe doesn’t include clay. If you like it, you can add clay. You can add any clay irrespective of their color.

Also, for a lighter hold swap the Jojoba Oil for another carrier oil. Being a wax, Jojoba Oil seems to give better hold than other carrier oils.

Like every pomade with a hard hold this pomade is a higher on the balmy consistency and needs to be scooped out. However, you can increase the oil to bring it down a notch.

Shelf Life

This lasts a good 3 – 6 months, though check the expiry dates of the products you use and go based on that.

How to Use the Pomade?

After your hair wash and hair drying, apply the hair pomade and style as usual. A small dollop does the trick and it works better when hair is a tad damp. However, it works well for dry hair too.

You will need to use a shampoo for washing off your hair when you use this Pomade, or Herbal Hair Wash Powder with Soap Nuts to ensure there’s no accumulation.
