DIY Hair Gel Cum Mask

I wanted to prepare a nourishing hair gel that works, is natural and also promotes better hair.

Whatever you put on your hair, or scalp gets absorbed, so I prefer using natural ingredients on my hair and scalp. I wanted a Hair Gel, which will also double up as a mask if needed.

Let’s take a look at the ingredients and how to make the gel first and then move to the benefits of the ingredients used.

Ingredients

Aloe Vera Leaves
Gelatin – ¼ Tbsp.
Rosemary Leaves
Tea Tree Oil – 7 Drops
Distilled Water – 2 Cups
Amaranth Oil – 25 Drops
Borage Oil – 7 Drops

Instructions

Remove the Aloe Gel from the Aloe Vera Leaves and set aside. Wash the Aloe Gel thoroughly and set aside for use.

Throw in the leaves and the sap (after removing the gel) along with water and let it boil for a few minutes. This helps convert certain potent ingredients in Aloe Vera plant to gentle and usable ingredients for most.

Prepare a tea with Rosemary Leaves and set aside.

Make sure the Aloe Juice and Rosemary Tea make about a cup (or alter the ratio accordingly)

Add ½ Tbsp. Gelatin to the Rosemary Tea and Aloe Juice.

Heat up some Distilled Water and add it to the mixture and stir using a fork till the Gelatin dissolves.

Refrigerate the mixture for a while.

Remove from the fridge and add in Aloe Vera Gel (1/4 Cup), Amaranth Oil, Borage Oil and Tea Tree Oil to the mixture and add it to your blender.

Whip for a few seconds to combine and blend the ingredients fully.

Transfer to a sterilized jar and refrigerate.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

Feel free to alter the ingredients listed here to suit your hair and scalp best. You can swap the Essential Oils, ratio or quantity of the ingredients and what not!

You can use Agar Agar or China Grass instead of Gelatin for a Vegan version.

You can skip the Aloe Juice if you’re allergic to the sap.

You can swap Rosemary Tea for Nettle or Horsetail Tea, or add that along too. You can also opt for other hair beneficial teas like Hibiscus, False Daisy, etc.

How to Use the Gel?

You can freeze the gel, or just refrigerate it. Once it cools down, apply to your strands and style as usual.

If you are using as a hair pack, apply generously on your hair and scalp and let it sit for 15 – 25 minutes before washing off. It is a good idea to detangle your hair before applying any pack; same goes for this one too. However, being slick and slippery, Aloe Vera can make detangling easier. So, do what works for you.
