DIY Deodorizing Hair Cleanser

If your scalp is oily it can get messy real quick. Excess oil can make your hair limp, accumulation or build-up might call for some rescue.

A good solution is one that cleanses and balances your scalp while also rendering a refreshing aroma to keep your blues at bay. This tincture is a comprehensive solution because it refreshes, deodorizes and cleanses the scalp.

Ingredients

Vodka / No Grain Alcohol – 3 Cups

Sage Leaves – 4 Tbsp.

Rosemary Leaves – 2 Tbsp.

Nettle Leaves – 4 Tbsp.

Mint Leaves – 2 Tbsp.

Instructions

Add all the ingredients – Sage Leaves, Rosemary Leaves, Nettle Leaves and Mint Leaves to a sterilized glass bottle.

Pour in the Vodka or No Grain Alcohol.

Mix the ingredients to make sure they’re soaked in the liquid.

 Seal the opening of the bottle with a muslin cloth wrap.

Tie a rope around the neck and close the lid of the jar.

Let it sit in a cool and dark place for four weeks.

Everyday, open the jar and mix the contents before sealing it again.

After the four weeks are up, open the container and filter the liquid using a strainer or a muslin cloth.

Squeeze out the liquid from the herbs and transfer the liquid to a sterilized glass jar with a dropper.

Done!

Shelf Life

This lasts good without refrigeration for a good two years. Use it carefully – close it right after use. Don’t use a wet or dirty ladle or hands to scoop out contents.

How to Use the Tincture?

Drop the tincture directly on the scalp surface and massage gently for a couple of minutes.

Pat dry excess tincture using a dark towel and let it air dry.

Style as usual (after it dries up of course, no styling while still wet).

This can also be used as an astringent for oily or combination skin.

*This can sting your eyes, so make sure the droplets don’t dribble into the eyes.

When to use the Tincture?

Can be used when you need to shampoo but don’t the time, or means for it.

Those who can’t shower frequently due to health or other reasons can use this for refreshing and cleansing your scalp.

You can also use this if you’re planning to corn braid your hair and only the scalp should be cleaned regularly.

**Don’t forget to do a patch test before full application.
