DIY Softening Borax Hair Rinse

Do you know you can soften hair with a rinse? Hair becomes tangled, dry and frizzy due to various reasons.

Frizzy hair could be due to exposure to pollution, harsh hair products, lack of nourishment, chemical or heat treatments, etc. Leaving hair open and riding at high speed can also get hair tangled and frizzy. How to soothe and soften hair that’s dry and rough?

There are different ways to soothe hair though the easiest when you’re in for a shower is using a rinse. Here’s a quick and easy rinse that fixes your hair right away.

Ingredients

Distilled Water – ½ Liter

Rosemary Twigs – 2 Tbsp.

Borax – 1 Tsp.

Lavender Buds – as needed

Instructions

In a bowl bring the water to a rolling boil and switch off the stove.

Add the rosemary twigs, lavender buds and borax to the water.

Mix well and keep it covered for about 2 hours.

After two hours when it is steeped strain the mixture to a cup.

Alternatively you can transfer it to a sterilized container if storing or preparing ahead.

Done!

Why This Rinse?

This rinse not only softens your hair but also adds volume and luster making your hair look fuller and alive again.

Who can use the Rinse?

This rinse works for all hair and scalp types. It is really good for those with dry, dull or frizzy hair and flaky scalp.

Frequency

You can use this rinse even daily, or as needed.

Shelf Life

This can be used immediately once it cools down fully.

If you are preparing ahead and storing to make it easier in the showering day, or if you won’t have time to prepare fresh, this lasts good for a week in the fridge.

Keep it in a tightly sealed sterilized container in the refrigerator.

How to Use the Rinse?

This is a final rinse – DO NOT rinse out after applying on your hair and scalp.

You need ½ Cup – 1 Cup at least for using once.

Wash your hair well and squeeze out excess water.

Take out the required rinse, pour on your hair and scalp and massage gently for a few seconds.

Rinse out excess rinse and pat dry with a dark towel – can stain lightly clothing slightly (depending on the Rosemary added).

Let it air dry and style as usual.

**This rinse for use after conditioning – however if you’re using dense conditioners it might be effective. So use rinse out conditioners before this rinse, or try leave-in conditioners after using the rinse.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

For a better rinse you can use rice water instead of distilled water – the strained water after cooking rice or add it along with the water. However, in that case, don’t store it for more than 2 – 3 days.

You can also use Rose Water or Rose Petals instead of Lavender for aroma. Rose Water and Rose Petals also soften the hair, so that’s a bonus.

As always, feel free to tweak the recipe to suit your needs and requirements. If you have any questions, feedback or requests, do write to us. Don’t have time for DIY Recipes? Try Vitamins range of hair products with Keratin or Argan Oil for hair and scalp care.
