DIY Soothing Scrub for Itchy Scalp

We all exfoliate our skin. Why don’t we do the same for our scalp? Funny thing is – many don’t even know scalp is an extension of the skin.

Let’s think for a second. We all think skull when we think scalp – the bone that makes the skull but what about the covering? Skin is a covering too, isn’t it? Why do we always imagine scalp is a hard bone and doesn’t have the skin covering? Funny right? Well, you’re not alone if you made this error, many of us do! Now that’s cleared up, let’s get started shall we?

Like all recipes, we’re going to get right into the crux and then move on to related topics.

Argan Oil – 1 Tsp.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

A good addition would be a spoon of Margosa Leaf Powder. If the itching is due to microbial activity, this fixes it real quick.

You can also use Rice Water – The starch-rich water drained after cooking rice directly on the stove.

You can also use good old water if you don’t have Buttermilk / Rice Water handy.

You can also add a few drops of Lemon Juice. It curbs itching caused due to inflammation.

You can use Tea Tree Oil to curb itching. A few drops should do the trick. Not just Tea Tree Oil, Lavender & Eucalyptus Essential Oil can work wonders for itchy scalp too.

Onion Juice is another ingredient that is readily available and curbs itching. The best part – it is also good for hair growth. Why not, right?

Few drops of Neem Oil helps to curb itching – worried about the smell? Toss in a few spoons of Rose Water.

How to Use the Scrub?

You can prepare larger quantity of the scrub based on your preference and requirement.

Apply this scrub to your scalp and gently massage for a few seconds to make sure the scrub coats your scalp surface.

Wait for 10 – 15 minutes before washing off your hair with shampoo.

Why These Ingredients?

Oats is a soothing and gently ingredient that makes it suitable even for those with sensitive skin. In this recipe, we’re using the soothing properties of oats for welcome relief from scalp itching. Do you know it can soothe scalp sunburn?

Aloe Vera and Honey are nourishing and moisturizing ingredients that soothe and calm your scalp, while also hydrating it. Hydration can come in handy if the itching is due to dry scalp. Like Oats, Aloe can soothe sunburn too.

Buttermilk is a special secret ingredient of mine that I use in myriads of recipes with or without Rice Water for nourishing, moisturizing, soothing and calming.

We know and have spoken a lot about Argan Oil that it needs no introduction here. Like other ingredients, it soothes scalp among other things and curbs itching.
