DIY Setting Lotion for Curlers

Don’t have curling tongs to curl your locks? You use curlers to get the job done? A curling lotion is a must for you in that case, good thing; since that’s the recipe we’re trying today

My niece loves to style her hair. I finally gave up trying to curb the use of styling products because that’s not possible – kids, these days. So, I decided some changes from my end were around the corner – ergo: preparing products to reduce the chemical damage.

Since she loved curls and used setting lotion for curling a lot, I decided to give that a shot. I had some left over quince seeds, which I decided to use for this recipe after one of my friends suggested the recipe that worked wonders for her.

While the common belief is that Quince seeds are poisonous they’re used for medicinal purposes around the world. In Persia it’s considered best for sore throat. We’ll discuss more about it later. Recipe first, talking second!

Ingredients

Quince Seeds – 2 ¼ Tbsp.
Lavender Essential Oil – 7 Drops
Myrrh Essential Oil – 7 Drops
Distilled Water – 1 Liter
Vetiver Essential Oil – 2 Drops

Instructions

Bring the water to a boil.

Add the Quince Seeds (crushed or pounded) to the water and let it simmer – it should reduce in quantity by 1/3rds. So a liter should become 750 Ml or less.

Let it cool down.

Strain and transfer to a sterilized pump dispenser and use as need.

How to Use the Lotion?

Shake well and take a small dollop (or as needed) of the setting lotion.

Apply o damp hair and curl away.

Shelf life

Since we use distilled water it should last though I prefer keeping it refrigerated. You can prepare smaller batch if you don’t use it often.

In India Quince Seeds are used to treat a variety of respiratory ailments, and externally as a balm for pain or burns. There are other medicinal uses for the plant including the fruit. However, we should be looking more about the hair benefits right? Yes, it does help with hair growth and making hair stronger so that’s a plus and a reason I decided to use the ingredient.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

If you like the woodsy aroma and want to prepare this recipe for your man or for boys in your family, you can add NüKira Bay Rum Essential Oil for that trademark woodsy and smoky aroma that’s found in Eau de Colognes.

You can use any essential oil of your choice for the recipe.

You can also stir in some Aloe Gel if you’re looking at added shine and texture for your curls.

I noticed whisking this mucilage after preparing with a dash of Magnesium Flakes gives defined curls.

Feel free to tweak the recipe for thrills and fun and keep us posted with your results. Don’t want to miss out on the fun of DIY by sticking to the recipe to a T. Isn’t it? Also, have you tried Vitamins Keratin & Argan Oil for hair & scalp care products?
