DIY Texturizing Everyday Hair Spray

So, I wanted to prepare a hair spray that you can use everyday without having to switch between texturizer and setting spray, etc. So this is sort of a cross between two or three recipes for an all-in-one solution!

I was crossing the aisle of a store when shopping and I came across this biscuit, which gave me an interesting idea. The biscuit though nothing fancy is called 50 50 and is a fusion of sweet and salt tastes. So, I came up with the idea to do the same for my recipes where I use more than one. As a result I came up with this everyday hair spray idea that uses both sugar and salt in it.

Ingredients

Magnesium Flakes – 1 ½ Tsp.
Distilled Water – ½ Cup
Sugar – 1 ½ Tsp.
Vodka – 1 Tsp.
Argan Oil – 1 Tsp.
Rosemary Essential Oil – 3 Drops
Myrrh Essential Oil – 4 Drops

Instructions

Heat the distilled water and add to your glass spritzer.

Add in all the ingredients one after the other.

Give it a good shake.

Done!

How to Use the Spray?

Spray on your dry hair and scrunch your hair. Done!

You can also use a curling iron to add more volume, but scrunch your hair once more after curling.

Alternatively, braid your hair at night, spray and sleep on it. Morning unbraid your hair, dry shampoo (not needed except for those with very greasy hair), re-spray and scrunch. Shampooing is option and not needed at all, just in case you have greasy hair you can add that step. Otherwise just unbraiding and scrunching fixes you up in no time.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

The essential oils are option and can be skipped or swapped for ones you prefer.

Vodka can be swapped for denatured alcohol or you can skip alcohol altogether.

You can also add in your conditioner – a spoon to keep the mixture from crystallizing. However, just adding a little hot water can fix it up real quick. So, don’t add conditioner if you don’t prefer it, or don’t want a slightly heavier spray.

You can use Epsom Salt instead of Magnesium Flakes, though I like that it adds more texture and waves to my wavy hair. Both offer similar results so it is a matter of preference, availability and liking.

You can use Hydrosols instead of plain Distilled Water – I have liked adding Rose or Lavender Hydrosol along with Rosemary Antioxidant Extract.

As always, try out different variations and identify what works best for you. The fun part of DIY are the experiments and tweaks where you can learn new stuff and do more personalized recipes for fun or preference. We’re always here for any queries or questions you may have along the way.
