Ayurvedic Hair Care by Season ~ Part III

So, we’re seeing how to care for our hair according to the season. This is a very good concept, considering different seasons have different requirements.

In Ayurveda, there’s a reason for everything and each and every action is chosen after a lot of deliberation and study. Not just for the hair, even the skin is handled differently for every season here.

Massage Oil

If you’re looking to massage your scalp, here are few choices that are recommended. Olive Oil, Sesame Oil, Avocado Oil, Argan Oil, Almond Oil and Sunflower Oil are recommended for scalp massage.

Apply your chosen oil on your scalp and gently massage the oil till it’s absorbed. Apply the remaining oil on your palm and fingers on your hair and don’t forget the tips. You can use additional oil if needed to coat your strands – you can coat it thoroughly in oil too. It not only helps your hair and nourishes it, it also leaves it shiny and lustrous after wash. Wash off after 10 – 25 minutes.

Exercise

If you’re wondering why this gets a mention, you should know exercises are very important for health and well-being. Without that, hair is never going to grow itself! Exercises not only help with fitness but also with detoxification. It is also a great stress management tool. So, irrespective of the season, don’t skip on exercises.

It secretes happiness hormones and also keeps your skin and hair healthy, unclogging pores and allowing nutrients to penetrate. While Yoga is considered a part of Ayurveda, or recommended by Ayurvedic practitioners, there are different exercises you can choose from to simpler ones like walking or jogging! You don’t have to hit the gym or perform impossible gymnastics to count as exercise, just move and stay active.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!

I can’t stress this enough. Without moisturization you hair will be dry, whether you like it or not! Many think hair and nails don’t need special care or attention, but we should understand only when there’s excess it goes to hair and nails – that means you should consume enough nutrients so hair and nails get their due. Also, they need TLC from the outside in the form of masks, packs, oils, etc.

Ginger, Anyone?

You can moisturize and nourish your hair with a hair pack made of Sesame Oil along with Ginger. You can grind them as a paste, or infuse the oil with Ginger and use, whatever you prefer more. The paste though sounds weird, it works wonders to soothe dry hair and keep scalp problems like dandruff at bay. Did you know some problems cause dryness, including dandruff? The vice versa is also true – dryness can aggravate dandruff. Ginger can also curb hair fall and promote better hair growth by stimulating scalp circulation.

The Good Old Butter Fruit!

We all know Avocado is a great fruit to care for your hair and scalp. There are numerous ways to use it, but even a simple Avocado Pack made from mashed avocados can work wonders for dry hair.

Are these all you can do for your hair? Absolutely not! There are more home remedies and tips you can try during different seasons. Want to know them? Stay tuned for more on this topic.
