DIY Dandruff Remedies – Part III

So, we’ve been looking at natural remedies for dandruff. As promised, here’s more to add to that list!

ACV

In a mug, add 2 cups of AC and cups of water. Use this as your final rinse and do this at least thrice a week. There would be an obvious difference in a few weeks and then you can make it once or twice a week, to keep dandruff at bay.

Coconut Oil

Don’t discount the humble coconut oil. It is a very powerful and antioxidant rich oil, that’s also an antifungal, antibacterial and antimicrobial. What better way to deal with dandruff?

Right after your hair shower, and air-drying your hair, apply coconut oil to your scalp. Massage for a few minutes and style as usual. Yes, yes, I understand what you are thinking! But trust me, this works wonders. This particularly works well if dandruff is mild, or the dry type. However, if it isn’t mild you will need more help along with Coconut Oil, which will see soon.

Cedarwood Oil

In a mixing bowl, add 4 Tbsp. of Carrier Oil (Preferably, Coconut Oil or Olive Oil) and add 7 drops each of Juniper, Cypress, Cedarwood and Spikenard Essential Oils. Mix well and apply this to your scalp. Wait for 40 minutes before you wash your hair and scalp. Make sure to use herbal wash powder, or a mild shampoo.

Egg Yolk

Beat 2 Egg Yolks well and apply it to your scalp. Wait for an hour before washing off your hair and do this twice a week. Then you can follow-up once a week, to prevent dandruff.

Fenugreek

Soak a cup of Fenugreek Seeds in 2 Cups of Water overnight. Use the water as a rinse in the morning and the seeds to wash your hair and scalp, if you are showering ;).

Garlic

Garlic is one of the best remedies for dandruff. While it is good enough to use Garlic on it own, I find this mixture potent and more effective. Take 2 – 3 Garlic Pods, 2 – 3 Shallots (small onions or ¼ big onion if you don’t get small ones), ½ Tsp. Peppercorns and a few spoons of Honey. Smash all the whole ingredients and add enough honey to cover your scalp. Apply this mixture to your scalp and wash off after 30 minutes. Do this twice a week and then once a week.

Olive Oil

Olive Oil is considered one of the best ways to deal with dandruff. Take a few spoons of Olive Oil in a bowl and slightly warm it up. Also add a piece of Camphor to it. Apply this mixture to your scalp and let it is for 30 – 45 minutes before washing off. Do this twice a week for welcome relief.

Salt

If your dandruff is dry and flaky, Salt is a good way to deal with it. Just take a few spoons of Salt and rub it through your scalp, and massage your scalp while you are it! After a few minutes, you can see the flakes are removed from your scalp. Wash your hair as usual. This seems quite abrasive really, but it really isn’t. The abrasive texture removes the flakes off your scalp and when you wash out, your scalp and hair will be flake free.

Vinegar

Vinegar

Just like ACV, Vinegar works too. Vinegar basically kills microbes causing dandruff, a reason it works well. You will need a cup or two of vinegar (depending on your hair volume) and equal quantity of water to dilute it. Use it as your final rinse, rinse out and pat dry. You can do this twice a week.

Did you think these are all the remedies you can try? Think again! Stay tuned! There are more remedies to add to this list.
