Want another easier hair oil recipe that works? Try this simple but effective DIY Hibiscus Hair Oil that works wonders for your hair and scalp.

Before we go into the goodness of the recipe or the ingredients, let’s take a quick look at the recipe. Shall we?

Ingredients

Hibiscus Flowers – 16
Coconut Oil – 100 Ml
Sesame Oil – 150 Ml
Hibiscus Leaves – a Handful
Rose Petals – a Handful

Red Hibiscus Flower for Hair

Instructions

Dry the Rose Petals in a shade till the petals are fully dried and crisp. It will take a day or two, or more, depending on where you live (in a tropical area, it takes a day or two).

Add the Rose Petals to a glass jar and cover it with Coconut Oil. Just add enough oil to cover the petals and leave in the sun.

Keep it in sun during the day and covered with a cloth at night. Continue this process for a week or two, till the oil is infused.

Filter the oil and set aside. This is the first part of this recipe, though this is completely optional. If you don’t want to do this, you can skip and proceed to the next part of the recipe.

Heat the oils in a heavy bottomed pan and when hot, add the Hibiscus Flowers and the Leaves. Make sure you simmer once the oil starts getting hot.

Keep frying till the petals and leaves lose their color and the oil is free from moisture. The color of the oil changes too – it could be a darker yellow, to a light or deep red, depending on the flowers you choose.

When done, let the oil cool down and filter it.

Done! Easy, isn’t it?

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

Like mentioned in the instructions, you can skip the rose infusion step if you want. It gives the oil a nice aroma and also has benefits, but it is not a must.

You can use Coconut Oil, Sesame Oil or any other Carrier Oil you prefer for this recipe. Choose oils that would work well with high temperatures and make sure the oil(s) you choose are cold-pressed.

If you don’t get fresh flowers or leaves, you can leave dry petals or leaves, or either. This oil works well even if you only add hibiscus flowers.

Why These Ingredients?

As mentioned earlier, Rose renders a nice aroma to the recipe. It is also moisturizing and can benefit your hair and scalp.

As for Hibiscus leaves and flowers, they’re known for their hair beneficial properties and have been used in different hair treatments in traditional medicine.

Using Hibiscus Oil is said to promote better hair growth, reduced hair fall, stronger hair and healthier scalp.

How to Use It?

You can apply the oil before your hair shower, or after. However you prefer. Make sure your hair is dry and not wet when you apply oil.

You can slightly warm the oil especially if you are applying it before your hair wash.

Shelf Life

This oil lasts a good six months, to a year. Just make sure you use dry spoon to scoop out oil for use, every time.
