Do you want defined curls? Why go for an extra hold gel that’s loaded with chemicals? Try this nourishing and effective hair gel that works, instead.

We have been looking at a lot of nitty-gritty stuff, so I thought we could catch a break and look at a DIY this time around. So, I decided on a defining hair gel recipe that you could prepare in your kitchen – one that your hair and scalp will love.

This gel is especially ideal if you have curly locks and want something to hold the curls together. This is quite easy to prepare and works wonders for your hair.

Let’s take a look at the recipe and then we will move on to the ingredients.

Ingredients

Flaxseed – ½ Cup
Argan Oil – 1 Tbsp.
Aloe Vera Gel – 1 Tbsp.
Shea Butter – 1 Tsp.
Avocado Oil – 1 Tsp.
Honey – 1 Tbsp.
Chamomile Essential Oil – 10 Drops

honey

Instructions

Bring the flaxseeds to a boil in about ½ Cup of Water.

Strain and set aside the gel in a bowl to cool down.

Now, add Aloe Vera Gel, Honey and Argan Oil to your food processor jar, along with Flaxseed Gel, Argan Oil, Honey, Shea Butter, Chamomile Essential Oil and Avocado Oil.

Blend on high till the ingredients blend together and you get a custard-like consistency.

Transfer to a sterilized jar and refrigerate.

How to Use the Gel?

Divide your hair into smaller sections – 4 – 6 sections, depending on your hair volume.

Start with the sections from behind and work the gel from bottom up – tip to your roots.

Coat your hair strands with the gel and let them air dry.

Style as usual.

Note: Don’t handle your hair after applying the gel, as you don’t to make it frizzy. Let it air dry fully, before you start styling.

Why These Ingredients?

Shea Butter nourishes your hair and scalp, without weighing them down or clogging your pores. It seals in moisture and restores your hair from damage – heat or chemical damage.

A natural conditioner, Aloe Vera can do wonders to improve your hair health, hydrate and nourish it, while also promoting hair growth and conditioning it.

We all know Honey can seal in moisture and render shine.

Avocado Oil is one of the most nourishing oils for curly hair as it will moisturize, nourish and rejuvenate your hair. It is also close to silicone and offers a natural sheen and shine for your hair. It is one of the best oils for your hair, especially if it is dry or damaged.

We all know a lot about Argan Oil already, having discussed it widely in different posts. It is especially good for taming curls and making it more manageable, besides nourishing and repairing your hair.

Chamomile Essential Oil has a mild and soothing aroma, and also shines and softens your hair. It can also get rid of itchy scalp, which is common in dry and damaged hair or scalp.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use Olive Oil instead of Avocado Oil, if you have dandruff. Olive Oil is known for beating dandruff.

Alternatively, you can add Olive Oil along with Avocado and Argan Oils and work around their quantities to get the right ratio.

You can choose any Essential Oil that works for you – I chose one that has good hair benefits, though you can go with what you like best. Geranium and Lavender Essential Oils are good too!
