We all do some sort of styling at one point in our lives, for different reasons. Besides, it is in our nature to always look for perfection. If straightening is one way to achieve great locks, so be it!

While some take to styling on an as-needed basis like for an occasion, some have to do it regularly due to an active social or work life. After all, can actresses or actors say no to styling their hair to suit different looks and roles? For them, it is part of their work.

Hair Straightening

For those who have an active social life, either as an extension of work or otherwise, styling becomes part and parcel of their routine. From using styling products to keep the hair in tact, to straightening or relaxing, based on their needs, styling can vary. However, we’re going to look at how to care for straightened hair today.

When you have long hair, but not the required length as the hair is curled up or wavy, or when you want to style easily and can’t do that due to curls, straightening is one solution many go for! We all know the effects of straightening and how it takes a toll on our hair, but we can’t really quit it.

So, let’s just talk about after-care now!

Use Ingredients / Products that Protect Your Hair!

When you have to straighten, make sure your strands are protected. You can use a moisturizer or a heat protectant or even a serum, depending on what suits you best. This way, you can bring down the level of damage. Isn’t it better?

Serums? Be Generous with Them!

When you straighten your hair, use a hair softener or a serum, as that will curb the damaging effects of heat. Hair straighteners use heat to straighten your hair and the temperate is 150 – 180 °C! So it can never be good for your hair. Make sure you protect them with a heat protectant, or a serum or a hair softener.

No Heating Rods When Your Hair is Wet!

When your hair is wet, it is easier to get it further frizzy, rough or even burn them! So, always let your hair dry or use a blow dryer before you use your heating rods on them. The most you can go with is 20 – 25% wetness.

Care for Your Hair

There are many natural treatments and packs that you can use to restore, heal and soothe your hair. You can use Yogurt, Honey, Apricot, Avocado, Aloe Vera and what not, to restore, nourish and nurture your hair.

Oil it Up!

Have you used oil for your hair or scalp recently? If not, it is time to grab that oil dispenser like yesterday! You can use any oil Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Argan Oil, Sunflower Oil, etc. Just go with what suits your hair and scalp best and what’s available near you and make sure you use it twice a week. Do you know wrapping a hot towel after applying for 5 – 10 minutes can promote better absorption?

Condition

Do you think conditioners aren’t needed? Think again! If you are into styling and go for straightening or other heat-based treatments, you really need a good conditioner for your hair.

Trim

Do you trim your hair regularly? You may think that it is a myth, or a way for hairdressers to get you visit often. But the truth is, your hair needs regular trims to keep split ends at bay. Nothing can be more damaging than ignored split-ends. They degrade hair’s health and also, promote hair loss.
